I believe that I am ideally qualified to hold the position of President of the RJA & HS, for the following reasons:

    Experience

I have been a member of the Society for 32 years, on the Agricultural Council for 21 of the past 25 years, and Agricultural Dept Treasurer & an Officer of the Society for the past 6 years

    Knowledge

I fully understand the workings of the Society & both its departments, as well as its relationship with its members, the public & Government

    Vision & Vitality

As a forward thinker with loads of energy & drive, I aim to lead the Society forward to a great & prosperous future, building on its glorious past

    Time

Supported by my wonderful family and my partners and staff at work, I am free to devote all the time necessary to the post of President, be it required during the day, night, weekday or weekend

    Business track record

I am Senior Partner & MD of a successful & profitable specialist law firm with 35 staff, and at the same time have steered the Agricultural Dept’s finances to unprecedented levels of reserves

    Passion

I am passionate about our beautiful Island and the wonderful Jersey cow. It is vitally important to me that we retain an economically successful Island herd of pedigree Jersey cows, thus helping to ensure that the rural part of our Island remains the beautiful treasure it is

My aims if elected as President of the RJA & HS:

  • Grow Membership numbers, and ensure that the Society becomes the leader in, and focal point for, rural activities and interest groups within the Island.
  • Continue to develop and grow the activities of both Departments, particularly our wonderful shows and competitions.
  • Further develop the Showground and our Headquarters, to provide a greater and more flexible range of facilities for our Members, and the public – thus providing potential for more income generation.
  • Ensure the continuation of a prudent policy when dealing with the Society’s financial and real estate assets.
  • Defend and protect the arable, horticultural and dairy sectors in all their facets, and the rural environment of the Island

Some projects that I would implement if elected as President of your Society:

  • Develop a social programme for Members of the Society, and encourage them to make more use of their Headquarter facilities.
  • Create a volunteer group of Members of the Society to assist with a range of tasks such as compiling the newsletter and mailing it out to Members.
  • Form a Stewards Committee with appropriate status, to recognise existing volunteer stewards at the Society’s many Shows, and to help train our up-and-coming potential stewards.
  • Develop the Society’s web site, and embark on an ambitious project to scan digitally all the many hundreds of photos that the Society owns, as well as our precious archive material, so that this is all made available on the web site for all to see.
  • Have the Jersey Herd Book available online so that it is made freely and easily accessible to everyone.
